Liability may refer to the person who is responsible to compensate another person as a result of their own or somebody else's acts or omissions. Everyone is a potential target. Dispatchers may be even more vulnerable. Learn how to protect yourself and your agency from possible liabilities.
Students will:
- Consider liability risks from the 9-1-1 perspective
- Learn about different types of liability related to dispatching
- Identify ways to reduce exposure to 9-1-1 liability.
- Review actual 9-1-1 calls.
Topics include:
- History of liability
- Legal action against 9-1-1 centers
- What is negligence?
- Criminal liability
- Civil liability
- Agency liability
- Type of liability you and your agency may be charged with
- Ways to avoid liability
- Community expectations
- SOPS's and liability
- Liability in training.
