Program Focus
Flying Armed Course Overview:
The Office of Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service maintains oversight of the Law Enforcement Officers Flying Armed training program. This training program is mandatory for all Law Enforcement Officers flying armed under Code of Federal Regulation CFR 1544.219 Carriage of Accessible Weapons.
The training material for this program is comprised of a structured lesson plan, slide presentation, FAQ's, and applicable codes of federal regulation. This material is provided to other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and departments to properly instruct their officers on the subject of flying on board commercial aircraft while armed. The material covered includes protocols in the handling of prohibited items, prisoner transport and dealing with an act of criminal violence aboard an aircraft.
Explosives Component Course Ojective: This course is designed to instruct LEOs and Security personnel on the different types and capabilities of explosives. This course emphasizes the construction and classification of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and their possible application by terrorists.At the completion of this class the students will be able to recognize potential threat and respond in a safe manner keeping in mind:
- Immediate actions to include evacuation and seeking proper frontal and overhead protection in a bomb threat or bombing scenario in a high threat area.
- Perform these procedures during a bomb threat or bombing scenario in a high threat area.
- Proper execution of these procedures will ensure the
attendee’s life and well being.
At the completion of this class the students will be able to:
- Describe different types of explosives, explosives trains, high and low explosives burn rates and blast and fragmentation effects.
- Identify the different types and categories of explosives.
- Cite the construction, components, and categories of IEDs.
- Identify the two most common types of Molotov cocktails and actions to be taken in the event of an attack with this device.
- Cite possible letter and package bomb construction, ID features and safe handling.
- Cite the safeties regarding IEDs
